In the case of very worn tooth, which is no longer suitable for making a dental filling, a partial coating-inlay, onlay is made of composite material or ceramic in a laboratory. More dental substance is retained than with grinding for veneers.

More demanding partial prostheses have for anchoring in addition to the base also calipers or anchors. For these prostheses, the anchoring is more aesthetically free, without visible clips.
